First Class Work

1. Image of your best piece of creative artwork or design work before coming into this course

This is a drawing of the interior stairway of Paris Opera in France, which was designed by Charles Garnier. It was one of the projects for the Architectural History course at UNSW during my first year and the first distinction mark I received. From lack of experience in drawing to the amount of detail in historical buildings made it very difficult to draw two pages every week but as I progressed through the course, improvements were evident. I learnt how to do shading, how to draw straight lines better and proportioning so that the overall image will look as close to the original as possible.

2. Great piece of architecture

Fallingwater is a house located in America and designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1935. It is a great piece of architecture as Wright best incorporates the idea of organic architecture into this house. He believed that a human life is part of nature and a house, which encompasses human life, should also display qualities of nature so that it will situate itself into the landscape without distrupting the natural lines and curves of nature. To do so, Wright made use of materials from surrounding areas to build this house as much as possible.

3. An original photograph of something beautiful

This is the archway in Ground of Alexandria in Sydney. It was a popular photo spot with a fountain and sculptures in the middle. The sky was especially pretty as it was during early spring and the way in which the sunlight scattered through patches of leaves around the arch was very beautiful to look at. The pink flowers added extra colour to the image, contrasting against the blue sky and white clouds - a combination of colour that I really favour right after pastel and neutral tones.
